Functional Abilities Evaluation (FAE)




Functional Abilities Evaluation (Functional Capacities Evaluation) is conducted to provide objective data regarding an client’s physical abilities and limitations. These results, in some cases are compared to specific occupation and provide a clear determination of client’s ability to perform the essential tasks of the job. Additionally, this information assists with appropriate vocational or rehabilitation planning.

At progressive, this comprehensive evaluation is performed by Phyisotherapist and Kinesiologist/Occupational therapist that use valid and reliable test measures to determine the client’s functional capabilities/abilities. A thourough musculoskeletal screen and review of documentation is compeled by the physiotherapist to rule out contra-indications/appropriateness for participation in the test is prior to the functional assessment. Components such as range of motion, strength, coordination, balance, mobility, sensation, endurance, functional tolerances for specific tasks, cognitive ability and material handling capabilities as appropriate are assessed. This testing is done one on one and is customized to every client’s specific needs which may take 4-5 hours. A detailed objective report is complied outlining the test results and recommendations are provided regarding occupational readiness and/or rehabilitation potential.
